2012 Audi RS4 Avant Leaked?

It is being reported that these are the first images of the new RS4 avant. However, last week some Audi bumpers appeared online that were said to be from the new RS4 avant. Then the bumpers were quickly dismissed as non-OEM, but rather an aftermarket brand. (See below for the bumpers)

We will have official news from Audi very soon, but until then enjoy the images of what could be the 2012 RS4 Avant.

2013 Porsche GT3 coming with PDK only?

The news from Stuttgart says that Porsche is highly considering a PDK only transmission, no manual option for the next GT3. They are currently testing both, but insiders say the PDK will be the choice. Approximately 2 out of 3 Porsche owners choose PDK, and this could be a deciding factor.
While a PDK GT3 is faster in all areas, what about that 33% of Porsche purists who feel that connection through a manual gearbox? Let's hope the manual is not eliminated as I personally feel the GT3 was made for only the true drivers who enjoy throwing through the gears.

Also, both of the new GT3 and GT2 will have the electromechanical steering system currently on the (991) 911. August Achleitner who is the 911 project chief said "The new system only removes the feedback you don't need," and, "All our race drivers prefer it."

New VW Phaeton coming in three years

A third generation Phaeton has been given the green light for production. Development and testing has just began as we can expect the new car in three years.

CEO of Volkswagen Martin Winterkorn will retire soon and wants this Phaeton to be his last legacy. Offering high level of luxury, craftsmanship, and quality details similar to the likes of Mercedes has been a tough sell with a VW badge. However, this time around they are setting their sights against the buyer who find those high priced luxuries too over the top. This new Phaeton will get keep things simple, but with an eye for extreme detail.

Keeping the car light weight with aluminum will be key. The powerplant will replace the W12 with a smaller turbocharged engine for efficiency with start/stop technology.

Latest Intel on the Mk7 Volkswagen Golf GTI

The all new Mk7 Golf will improve on many levels. The latest news suggests a new line of powertrains including a plug-in hybrid version with 243bhp and 50mpg, a twin-turbo 2.0L diesel version with 220bhp for the GTD, and a turbo 2.0L with 260bhp for the GTI.

Also new for the GTI, will be an electronically controlled front differential that will deliver more agile steering behavior claimed by VW. They have even said the new system on prototypes was able to run the Nürburgring 8 seconds faster than those without it.

With the new MQB platform, all-wheel drive will be an option on all Golf models. More aluminium will be used throughout and the overall weight will be close to the Mk4 (approximately 2850 pounds).

On the inside, an 8 inch iPad-style dashboard touchscreen will come standard along with some other high-tech goodies.

It is expected to be unveiled this September at the Paris motor show.

2012 Audi TT RS "Plus" revealed

There was some talk of an even more powerful TT RS variant on its way, and now Audi has taken the wraps off their TT RS "Plus". Using the same 2.5L 5-cylinder turbo from the RS, this Plus model has 20 more horsepower for a total of 360bhp. 0-100 km/h (62 mph) will take just 4.1 seconds with S-Tronic, and top speed will reach 280 km/h (174 mph). Nipping at the heels or Porsche, the TT RS Plus is now in the ranks of Boxster/Cayman performance.

Aside from the bump in power, the Plus model has a few exterior changes including a polished anthracite diamond-mesh grille, carbon fiber side mirrors, black tailpipes, and black with red 19-inch five-arm "Rotor" design wheels.

It will go on sale here in Germany in Spring 2012 (sorry, no U.S.) and priced from €60,650 - €65,65 depending on transmission and coupe/roadster.

The new B9 A4 will be available in the fall of 2014. Recent reports suggest that a plug-in hybrid and natural gas turbo will be added to the engine line with the start-stop system. The V6 will be no longer, but replaced with a stronger and more efficient inline 4-cylinder turbo. A lighter construction will use more aluminum with steel. Similar to the A8 will be optional all LED headlights.

The second generation Audi R8 for 2014 will have an all new aluminum platform and weigh 60 kilograms less than the current R8. It will have a longer wheel base, and more room in the cabin. A roadster is expected for release in 2015. The 4.2L V8 and 5.2L V10 will return but with more horsepower and of course with Quattro. It is expected for the V8 to have 450hp and the V10 around 550hp. The transmission will be upgraded to a new double-clutch gearbox with seven gears (no manual option).

The R8 GT Limited Edition is rumored to make a second appearance around 2016, but with more power. The 5.2L V10 will be pumped up to 580hp and set to compete against the Ferrari 458 Scuderia, Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera, and Porsche 991 GT3.

German tuner Edo Competition has built this very quick Panamera Turbo S with 700 horsepower. The engine modifications include new exhaust manifolds and turbochargers, high-flow catalytic converters, air filters, and ECU re-flash. All together, they take the factory V8 550hp / 553 lb-ft of torque up to 700 hp and 649 lb-ft of torque.
0 to 100km/h (62mph) takes only 3.5 seconds and has a top speed of 340km/h (211mph).

A report by EVO magazine with Uli Hackenberg (head of VW engineering) said Volkswagen is still evaluating the idea for a convertible sports car. With the Toyota GT 86, Subaru BRZ, and new Mazda MX-5 it suggests buyers are once again interested in purchasing an entry-level sports car.

The Volkswagen Sports Car's future is still unclear, but sounds like VW might be ready to bring this to reality. Question is, when? (for VW enthusiasts, it's well overdue)

Porsche's new MSB sedan platform details

Much like VAG, Porsche has developed a new platform that will be shared out among the family's brands. Named “Modularer Standardantrieb-Baukasten” (Modular Standard Platform) or MSB, this setup is for a front-engine / rear-wheel drive layout with optional all-wheel drive.

This will be used for the new third generation Panamera and also rumored for the Bentley Continental, Audi A9, and soon to be Lamborghini sedan. Also, this new layout for the Panamera will reduce the overall weight by 200 pounds.

The benefit is one universal sedan platform that can be used to save production time, and cost across all brands.

2013 Volkswagen will offer three new levels of touchscreens entertainment systems

The new Mk7 Golf will be the first to offer three new entertainment systems from VW. The Entry level will have 5-inch unit, Standard will be 5.8-inch in size and High will have an 8-inch system. All levels will be touchscreen with multi-functionality and NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor for crisp 3D graphics on menus and mapping.

Much like Audi's system, it will also have handwriting recognition if the user doesn't want to use the soft keyboard. Lastly, it might offer mirror-functionality from a smart phone. Once connected the user would be able to access all Apps (and phone functions) from their phone through the system. Internet tethering might also be an option and create a WLAN hotspot.

This new structure will be used for the upcoming Mk7 Golf as well as 60 other models across the brands. It will also be used for next generation Polo, Beetle, Golf, Scirocco, Jetta, Tiguan, Touran, Sharan, Passat, and CC, and upcoming Audi A3. With the wheelbase, track widths, and transversely mounted engine all the same for the MQB, all models will be able to be built on the same production line across all brands.

Volkswagen will soon own all of Porsche

Currently, Volkswagen owns 49.9% of Porsche and reports here in Germany are stating that on February 14, 2012, VW will purchase the remaining 50.1% for complete ownership. According to Der Spiegel, VW will pay €3.9 billion (around $5.1B USD) to own the company that was originally started together with VW by Dr Ferdinand.

The overall takeover could mean more VW's and Porsche's will be built joint together. As of now it is said that Porsche will still act as it does currently with no change to racing and vehicle development, even though they will share the same CEO and CFO.

2013 Porsche 911 Turbo will have Tri-Turbo system

In a recent patent application submitted by Porsche, it shows that the next 911 turbo will have a three-turbo set up. The 3.8L flat-six will have a smaller turbo close to the engine to eliminate boost lag at low speeds and provide more off-the-line power. The other twin turbos appear to be in the same location as previous handling hard pulls and top-end power. The addition of the third turbo will also reducing emissions and improve fuel economy.

We won't see anything official for awhile since the new 911 turbo is about a year away from its debut. It is rumored to have around 550 horsepower for the base model.

Also, we can expect the tri-turbo system in the next GT2 and GT2RS.

This is the new tuning kit from ABT Sportline for the facelifted Audi A4 & S4.
The exterior has been modified all around including a newly designed front lip, side skirts, rear diffuser, fender vents, and trunk spoiler. Rolling on and 19 or 20-inch wheels, the kit also includes a sports exhaust system. Engine modifications are as followed for each application: 2.0L TFSI four-cylinder turbo is pumped up to 271 hp. The 3.0L TFSI V6 jumps to 429 hp (with a top speed of 175mph and 0-100 km/h in 4.8 seconds). The 3.0L TDI puts out 278 hp and 413 lb-ft of torque.

A 2013 Boxster turbo appeared on the web recently, and while there is no official model, it does sound interesting. This is a rendering (by Milanno Artworks-2) of "what if" Porsche created it. Such a model would compete with the 911 turbo cabrio and sounds unlikely, but just the fact that it is being talked about has us thinking. Is it time for the Boxster turbo? for those who think the Boxster S is just not enough? Time will tell, as Porsche is always coming out with new variations of their models.

A recent report states that VW has given the green light for the Up! GT. The concept that was revealed had a sporty feel all around with its front end, wider grille, bigger brake ducts, rear diffuser, spoiler, twin exhaust pipes, 17-inch wheels, and LED running lights. Rumor has it that the GT will be powered by a three-cylinder turbo engine with 110bhp and six-speed gearbox.

If the Golf GTI is too big/expensive, and the Polo GTI is still a bit too big, then the Up! GT might be just right.

Audi A7 tuned by B&B

Here is the latest kit for the A7 from B&B Automobiltechnik. The exterior modifications include fender vents, a lowered suspension, and 19- to 21-inch alloy wheels.
There are three stages available for the 3.0L V6 TFSI. Stage one produces 380hp (361 lb-ft of torque). Stage two adds a high-flow air intake and better effective intercooler to produce 402hp (383 lb-ft of torque). Finally stage three adds a sport exhaust on top of what was included in stage two for a total of 419hp (398 lb-ft of torque).

It will be available for order in Germany staring in March and the rest of Europe in summer. The only engine available is the three-cylinder 1.0L with BlueMotion tech (including a stop/start system) producing 60 - 75 bhp depending on the trim package.

All these products are nice to look at and have a function, along with extensive engineering involved.

Volkswagen wants to stand out for being unique, quality, and desirable.

There is a report the VW is considering the Beetle Bugster (Speedster) for production. It's all hinging on the demand for the model. It's might not come as an electric version like the concept, but the debut of the chop top Beetle was a tester for customer demand. Volkswagen designer Mark Lichter said "There is a serious proposal for a speedster Beetle will come for production, we just need to find the business case."

Let's hope they can pull this together and bring this sleek looking Bug to the road.

Volkswagen Golf VII will debut in September

A recent report has come out stating that the seventh generation Golf (Mk7) will be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in September.

The new Golf will be longer, wider, and ride on the new MQB platform. Spy shots haven't been able to catch much detail but it's believed to have sharper styling, steeply-raked windscreen, and a lower roofline. Interior is also said to have a sportier feel (more Audi like layout) that is angled towards the driver.

We can expect the same 2.0L TSI engine and Diesel. However, the GTI could have a tweaked engine with at least 220bhp.

Here are more spy pics of the 2013 911 GT3 out testing. With its large rear wing, unique front bumper (still in testing phase), and center exhaust it's obvious to see it's different from the standard 911.

Porsche is said to be cutting the overall weight down (around 40kgs) on this new GT3. Power will also increase from the 3.8L to over 450bhp.

It's also rumored that the PDK gearbox will not be available, making for a true drivers car with a six (or seven) speed manual.

RUF calls it the Panamera XL and it's stretched 15.7 inches for a total of 211.4 inches in length. The extra room in back is sure to create a comfortable business lounge for the rich and famous. The 4,321 pound (1,960kg) four door Porsche is powered by a 414hp V8.

Next Audi A8 will drive itself in traffic jams

Audi has announced plans to introduce a new system named "Traffic Jam Assistant" for the next flagship model (A8). Once the driver switches it on in stop-and-go traffic, the vehicle will take over complete control of the steering, brakes, and acceleration up to 37 mph. Using front-mounted adaptive cruise control sensors and wide-angle video cameras the system can monitor lane markings, other vehicles, barriers and pedestrians. Eight ultrasonic sensors manage and monitor distance from the front, sides, and rear.

Audi expects to have this out to the market sometime next year 2013 in the next A8.

2014 Audi TT Rendering and Intel

This is the latest rendering of the third generation Audi TT according to Auto Bild. The increased aluminum body is 60 kilograms lighter, and the new styling has sharper edges that is more muscular and aggressive.

The engine options will include the 1.8L turbo four-cylinder with 180 hp, the 2.5L turbo five-cylinder with 380 hp, and the 2.0L diesel with 180 hp. Gearbox will be available in both 6-speed manual and 7-speed S-tronic both with Quattro all-wheel drive option.

VW considering to replace VR6 with Audi's 2.5 TFSI

A recent report is stating that Volkswagen is considering to replace the VR6 with Audi's 2.5L 5-cylinder turbo detuned to 314hp. Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, who oversees research and development at VW said they are exploring their options with Audis engine. If they choose not to replace it then the VR6 will continue.

2013 Porsche Boxster S Leaked - First Images

These are the first images of the all new third generation Boxster (981) set to debut soon. Compared to the current model, it has a lighter body (35 kilograms lighter), 6-inch longer wheelbase, 4-inch wider front track, and new base engine. The new body shares characterisitcs from the 918 Spyder, and comes standard with 18 inch wheels.

The Boxster S will have its usual flat 6-cylinder engine producing 5hp more over the current model for a total of 315hp. A 6 speed manual and revised 7-speed PDK gearbox will be available allowing the 0 to 100 km/h time of 5 seconds. The base Boxster will have a 2.7 boxer engine with direct injection making 265 hp and 0 to 100 km/h time of 5.7 seconds. Both engines will come with start-stop systems.

The interior will receive the rising middle console from the new 911 and Carrera GT. The roof frame is made of magnesium or aluminum, and the fabric top opens in 9 seconds (max 50 km/h). Pricing is expected to start around $50k for the base model.

It will be available and in showrooms the middle of this April 2012.

Volkswagen Roadster might not be coming

Volkswagen’s mid-engine rear-wheel drive Bluesport Roadster concept might not see production after all due to poor anticipated customer demand.

VW’s head of R&D Ulrich Hackenberg said “At the moment, there’s no official release for the project. We are fighting for it as it fits with the VW brand, but we need demand and volume and we need dealers to get behind it.”

VW would like 50,000 units sold worldwide to justify production, and internal projections don’t even come close.

The Roadster chassis would also be shared with Audi and Porsche for their small scale sportscar as well. If the VW is not given the green light, we can expect the other two brands to stop development on their versions.

2013 Audi Allroad coming to the U.S.

Initially not believed to make its way to the U.S., Audi has now confirmed they will bring the 2013 Allroad stateside. It will replace the A4 avant and be available later this year. The beloved Allroad is well known among VAG enthusiasts and this all new model is expected to be fully embraced.

Similar to Allroads in the past; features include a high ground clearance, matte finished lower bumpers with wheel arches, stainless steel side sills, and aluminum-optic roof rails that set it apart from any other road going Audi.

Powered by a turbocharged 2.0L TSI it has 211hp and 258ft/torque. And, of course with quattro all-wheel-drive, it also has a 8-speed automatic gearbox.

A special options even includes a wireless Internet for real-time information about weather, traffic and news.

Volkswagen E-Bugster Officially Unveiled

Volkswagen has officially unveiled the E-Bugster concept. This all electric vehicle can travel more than 100 miles on a single charge with its 114hp (85 kW / 116 PS) motor. The two-seater Bug with the battery behind the front seats features a chopped roof, fender flares, and 20-inch wheels along with LED daytime running lights.

The interior includes a series of blue and white lights along the door trims, around the vents, and from the instrument cluster.

No word if this model will see production, but hopes are high even though it caters to a small market.

Audi Q3 Vail Concept Officially Revealed

Audi has revealed their all new Q3 "Vail" concept. The idea behind this mid-sized SUV was for the ultimate vehicle to tackle any skiing or snowboarding trek up to the mountains. It features matte gray trim panels, fender flares, running boards, aluminum underbody guard, vertical grille, and unique “Energy Red” paint. The specially designed roof rack for carrying skis and snowboards also includes LED lighting for those night fittings.

Inside has special features including a charging station for flashlights or heated Thermos bottle, and a heated folding trunk mat to ensure a warm place to sit changing ski boots or shoes.

The engine is taken from the RS3 and TTRS with a 2.5L turbocharged five-cylinder engine producing 314hp and 295ft/torque. Transmission is a seven-speed S tronic matted to quattro all-wheel-drive. 0-100 km/h (62 mph) takes just 5.5 seconds and top speed of 163mph.

No word if the Vail concept will see production, but the Q3 will be released in the U.S. this spring 2012.

2013 VW Jetta Hybrid Officially Revealed

Volkswagen has officially taken the wraps off the 2013 Jetta Hybrid that has been in talks for 2 years. VW is stating that this is the world's fastest compact hybrid with its 170hp and 0-60 in less than 9 seconds. The 1.4L turbocharged four-cylinder combined with an electric motor give it 45 mpg. (11 mpg better than Jetta TDI and 1mpg better than the 2012 Honda Civic Hybrid). This is also the first hybrid to have a seven-speed dual clutch transmission.

Updates over the current Jetta include Bi-Xenon headlights with LED running lights, LED tail lights, newly designed exhaust system, acoustic windscreen and thicker front side windows (to make it even quieter), and 15-inch alloy wheels with low rolling resistance tires. There is even a "power meter" and a multifunction display on the left (same as the Bugatti Veyron).

Volkswagen says it will be priced competitively with other compact hybrids, placing it around the $25,000 range.

The Jetta Hybrid will initially launch only in the USA and Canada this November 2012.

2013 Audi RS5 coming to the U.S.

Audi has confirmed that they will offer the new RS5 in the U.S. starting this spring.

Powered by a natural 4.2L V8, this über coupe model has 450hp and 317ft/torque. Quattro all-wheel-drive comes standard with a seven-speed S tronic gearbox. With a self-locking crown-gear center differential, up to 85 percent of the torque can be sent to the rear wheels (or up to 70 percent to the front).

The inside will offer Nappa leather or leather with Alcantara-insert sport seats. Carbon fiber with body matched trim, aluminum accents, and RS5 logos are throughout the interior.

No word on pricing as of yet.

2013 Audi A8 will have 3.0L TDI and Supercharger for the U.S.

Audi has confirmed the 2013 A8 will be available with both turbodiesel and supercharged powerplants for the U.S.

The 3.0L V6 TDI (also in the Q7) will produce around 225hp and 406ft/torque. The 3.0T V6 Supercharged engine (also in the S4) will have 333hp and 325ft/torque and feature quattro all-wheel drive as standard.

Both engines will include engine stop-start technology to improve fuel consumption.

The Jetta Hybrid fetaures a 1.4L TSI turbo engine producing 150 hp (112 kW/152 PS) and 184 lb-ft (249 Nm) of torque; while the electric motor has 36 hp (27 kW) for a combined total of 170 hp (127 kW/172 PS). 0 to 60 mph will take less than 9 seconds and the fuel economy rating is 45 mpg (5.2l/100km).

It has a 7-speed DSG transmission which can disengage form the engine and allow the electric motor to power the Jetta for 1.2 miles (1.9 km) up to 44 mph (71 km/h).
