The Volkswagen Golf is the flagship, the core of the brand. It is set to make it's world premiere as early as September 2012 atthe Paris Motor Show - and start selling in the same year.
For the new Golf mk7 we see a flatter front, much shorter body overhangs, the new "Tornado" line below the door handles, a flatter A-pillar, a grill-chrome bar that extends to the headlights, a mini-corner windows in the front doors to deeper placed mirrors (to provide better visibility when turning). The length is approximately 4.20 meters, but eight more inches of wheelbase to offer substantially more legroom in the passenger compartment. And: The car is wider than two inches (about 1.80 meters), plus a wider track and a slightly bulkier rear. VW also promises a lower noise comfort for even the motorway speeds. Group design chief Walter de Silva, is going for "pure, clear and simple lines"
The new cockpit is reminiscent of BMW models of the 80s: All strongly grouped around the driver, the operation should be improved so forth - and simplify. The on-board computer with new graphics for better readability. There are series of new electronic helpers: High-beam assistant, lightning-fast camera-based traffic sign recognition (speed limits), adaptive cruise control and more. This fine-tuning the chassis for even greater driving dynamics and long-distance comfort.
And appearing for the 2014 edition of the extremely sporty R VW Golf all-wheel drive vehicle is planning a 300 horsepower version.
