The Audi R18 e-tron Quattro is official and is set to lead on the race track once again. New technology has found its way onto the Le Mans race model in hybrid form. Powering the rear wheels with 510 horsepower is a V6 TDI. The front wheels will receive their propulsion from a Kinetic Energy Recovery System. The energy upon braking is recovered into a flywheel and fed back out on acceleration. With the added weight up front, the rear gearbox is made of carbon fiber to achieve a better overall weight balance.
The new R18 will make its race debut on May 5 in the 6-hour race at Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium). It will also compete at the 24 Hours of Le Mans (France) on June 16/17.
