The Mk7 Golf/GTI will officially be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show this September. While Volkswagen is keeping the details of the next generation under tight wraps, we thought of arranging what we do know.
Exterior:
• Aggressive, athletic, and sharper styling
• Steeper windshield rake
• MQB platform
• Wider track
• Lower roofline
• Lower ride height by 1.2 inches
• Shorter bumper overhangs
• Longer wheel-base
• More pronounced hip
• Aluminum structure roof and floor
• Larger sunroof (same as Scirocco)
• Updated LED daytime running lights
• Updated honeycomb (more horizontal)
• Rumored: Door mounted side mirrors (same as TT)
Interior:
• Updated more sporty feel (Audi like layout) that is angled towards the driver
• New gauges with LED's
• An 8 inch iPad-style dashboard touchscreen
Performance:
• Between 220-260 horsepower from the 2.0L turbo four-cylinder TSI
• Rumored: 0 - 100 km/h (62 mph) time of 6.7 seconds (Mk6 6.9 seconds)
• New "VAQ" (electronically-controlled front differential lock) for more agile steering behavior (8 seconds faster around the Nürburgring)
• Larger brakes
• MQB platform with rumored with all-wheel drive option
• Rumored: Twin-turbo 2.0L diesel with 220bhp for the GTD
• Plug-in hybrid version with 243bhp and 50mpg
• Lighter in weight around 100 pounds
