VW has debuted the new Golf R 400 Concept at the Beijing Auto Show. The specs are all about the same as the teaser which include 400hp, 4MOTION, 0-100km/h (62mph) in 3.9 seconds, top speed 175. A new bit of information is the engine, which we now know is a 2.0L TSI race engine based on the Polo WRC's powerplant. Transmission is a 6-speed manual which is an interesting choice since the DSG is much quicker.
This concept pays homage to the Golf Rallye G60 (1989) with its wide body (20mm wider), and special styling. Both front and rear bumpers include raw carbon fiber elements, and a lower lip around the bottom of the whole car. Yellow accents are throughout from the stitching, to the calipers, and the trim.
Early rumors suggest that Volkswagen is thinking about a limited production, but at this time it's only a concept.
