The wait is over and the new Volkswagen Golf is here. Shown today in Berlin are the first images released.

This all new Mk7 model is an obvious evolution from the Mk6. Visually, there are new headlamps with LED running lights. The taillights are extremely reminiscent from the Mk6 LED's. The A-pillar now sport small windows behind them and the the mirrors have a new mounting location.

The front bumper is new, but the rear has not changed much. Keep in mind, that this is the Golf and the GTI, GTD, and R model will have a more aggressive styling kit.
On the inside, it's very subtle changes from the Mk6 although they say the dash angles more towards the drive. A few upgrades include electronic parking brake and keyless start.

The new Mk7 Golf might be all new from the ground up with its MQB chassis, but I have to say I am disappointing it looks so close to the Mk6 model. Gone are the days of new styling design we saw from Golf models of the past.

Volkswagen is said to release the next Golf R earlier in the Mk7 lifeline. Typically VW has sold their top line Golf R model to end the model cycle. This has not bode well with customers, since they spend more on a car that in only one years time is considered styling outdated. To fix this and compete with other brands, the AWD Golf R is rumored to come out next year Fall 2013. It will share its engine with the new Audi S3. Power will bump to 280hp and the dual clutch DSG transmission will now be seven-speed.
