After few leaked photos, Porsche unveiled today the brand new 2011 GT2 RS, a hardcore version of their most powerful vehicle found on the market.
What is really interesting about this car? Well, besides its impressive price tag of $245,000 and the limited production of just 500 units, the car is with 154-pound lighter (70 kg) using plenty of carbon fiber but also a new body kit. The new vehicle has a total weight of 3,020 lb (1,370 kilograms) in road trim with all fluids on board. The kit consists of a redesigned front bumper, new side sills as well as a new rear wing spoiler in order to improve the handling at very high speeds.
“Matte-finish carbon also graces the redesigned front spoiler lip and the 3/8th of an inch (10 mm) taller rear spoiler lip - which both enhance aerodynamics and provide extra downforce”. The new car features the same 3.6-liter engine found on the standard version, featuring two variable turbine geometry turbochargers, but delivering 620 hp (a power-to-weight ratio of just 4.9 lbs (2.21 kg) per horsepower), with 90 hp more than the standard GT2.
The engine is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. Porsche claims that the new GT2 RS can hit 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds while the top speed is electronically limited to 205 mph or 330 km/h. Equally impressive stopping power comes from Porsche Composite Ceramic Brakes (PCCB).
The 2011 Porsche GT2 RS tires were specifically designed for this model and measure 245/35 ZR 19 at the front and 325/30 ZR 19 at the rear, delivering cornering performance to match the straight-line speed. The car also features unique anti-roll bars, specific engine mounts and recalibrated Porsche Stability Management (PSM), whose stability and traction control functions can be switched off individually.
According to Porsche, the new GT2 RS can lap the Nurburgring race track in just 7 minutes and 18 seconds. Inside, we ding two-piece bucket seats made of carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic as standard and lightweight door panels with fabric straps instead of traditional door handle (just like the Boxster RS Spyder).
The standard interior color is black, in contrast with the red elements such as seat center sections, the roof lining and segments of the steering wheel rim. Regarding the gearshift and handbrake lever, these are finished in red alcantara. Regarding its U.S. debut, this will be made in October 2010 while the world debut will be made at the Moscow Auto Show on August 25th 2010!
