When the Audi A2 returns in 2012, it will be priced lower as this second-generation model will have a conventional steel monocoque from the A1 in place of a spaceframe construction of the original A2.
With this low pricing, the model is expected to be able to compete well against front-drive rivals from BMW and Mercedes-Benz. Details about the new A2 styling are still unconfirmed but Audi has implied that it will have the same template as its predecessor and will have a tall one-box design and comparatively narrow tracks. According to Audi chairman Rupert Stadler, electric drive is a priority. He confirms that the range extender set-up in the A1 e-tron might be what will be used on the A2. He added that the more conventional versions will have a range of four-cylinder petrols and diesels shared with the A1.
