New 2013 Audi R8 Facelift Debuts

Audi has officially revealed the facelifted R8 for 2013. They will display it in September at the Paris Autoshow.

The updated front features new LED headlights, six-point grille, and refreshed bumper. The rear has new LED taillights, new 'R8' logo in "S" fashion, and diffuser in "GT" style with round tailpipes.
The two engine options have not changed and still develop 424hp from the 4.2L V8 and 518hp from the 5.2L V10. A 6-speed manual gearbox is still available, but the new 7-speed transmission has improved acceleration times by 3/10 of a second.

A new "V10 Plus" version is replacing the "GT" producing 542hp and is only 22 pounds over the V8 model thanks to excessive use of carbon fiber. 0-100 km/h (62mph) only takes 3.5 seconds and has a top speed of 197 mph.

It will go on sale at the end of this year, and early next year for North America. Prices start at ($136,891 US) €113,500 for the V8, ($186,481 US) €154,600 for the V10, and ($208,894 US) €173,200 for the R8 V10 Plus.

Image is a rendering

Volkswagen has officially announced that the all new Mk7 Golf will be available next spring 2013. It will go on sale in North America 6 months later in the fall. As we all know, this MQB chassis Golf is not based on any previous model and thus highly anticipated. Some other great news for Americans is the rumor VW is considering to import the GTD (diesel version GTI). It is important for more Americans to embrace the diesel powerplant since VW is said to be developing a diesel sport R version.

March 2013: Golf available in Europe
September (late) 2013: GTI available in Europe
October 2013: GTD available in Europe

Porsche considering Panamera "Shooting Brake" (wagon)?

New details have emerged that Porsche is planning a Panamera wagon.

With the success of the Mercedes CLS, it appears Porsche wants a piece of that market. The idea doesn't make a whole lot of sense since the added roof and hatch wouldn't add much more cargo space.

We reported some time back that the joint venture with Bentley would provide a good platform, and perhaps this is the bases for such model. It is said that the "shooting brake" Panamera could be shown this October at the Paris Motor Show, however it would not go on sale until late 2014 as a 2015 model.
These renderings give us a good idea of what could be.

Volkswagen Officially Completes Porsche Purchase

VW has finally completed the sale of Porsche for €4.46 billion ($5.6 billion US). Volkswagen now owns 50.1% of Porsche SE and can add them to the growing VW family including Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Seat, and Skoda.

VW CEO Martin Winterkorn was quoted saying: "The unique Porsche brand will now become an integral part of the Volkswagen Group. That is good for Volkswagen, good for Porsche and good for Germany as an industrial location".

It would now appear more likely for a joint model to exist, but whether that is a roadster, 914 return, or new model entirely remains unknown.
