Demand for the Audi A1 is likely to surpass the 50,000 cars that will be produced this year. In an interview with Automotive News Europe, Peter Schwarzenbauer, Audi’s head of sales and marketing, said that with this high demand, those who submitted orders may have to get into a waiting list.

The Audi A1 is priced from £13,145 in the UK. Audi estimates 90% of the buyers are first-time Audi customers. Audi sees that the A1 will appeal to rich young buyers who traditionally move on to larger models in a make’s range. For 2011, Audi will boost production up to 80,000 cars and 100,000 cars beyond that. Production of the Audi A1 started last Tuesday, with 500 cars rolling out each day.
