Audi will be launching two new special edition 'halo' models that the automaker hopes will add some luster to the brand in specific markets and help boost its image over rivals such as BMW and Mercedes-Benz.

The most expensive model will be a special edition Q7 V12 TDI in a two-tone exterior color for the Russian market which will sell for €200,000 (US $285,000) starting in May.

The edition will be limited to 555 units and come in a Phantom Black and Black Velvet-colored exterior.

Also in the pipeline is an R8 V10 Pure Sport which Audi will sell exclusively in the United Arab Emeriates and is scheduled for a launch in June. Price tag on that model will be €94,000 (US $136,000).

Only 40 units of the Pure Sport will be made.

Says Audi sales boss Peter Schwarzenbauer:

"There's nothing better than tailoring cars to specific markets. We see huge potential for business with limited special editions."

Last year, Audi issued a successful Black-and-White limited edition series of the TT model in China, where 450 units were sold for a price of €54,000 (US $78,000).
