Volkswagen Passat Alltrack Unveiled

Volkswagen has revealed their version of the Audi Allroad. Originally rumored to be named the CrossPassat, this all new Passat Alltrack will have it's world premier at the Tokyo Auto Show in two weeks.

This is the same size of the current Passat avant, but with higher ground clearance, larger wheels, and fender flares. All wheel drive will be available with an optional two-wheel drive. Engines will include two turbocharged (TSI) with 160bhp and 210bhp, also two turbodiesels (TDI) with 140bhp and 170bhp. Transmission will only be the 6-speed DSG. The interior will receive Alcantara suede along the usual VW amenities.
Off-Road driving can be engaged via button on the dashboard which alters the ABS and electronic differential systems to operate more effectively on loose surfaces and assist with hill descent control.

The VW Passat Alltrack goes on sale in Spring 2012.

It will not be available in the U.S. as VW of America spokesman Mark Gillies said "Because it's based on the European Passat, we have no plans to sell it here"

Expect more details with official unveiling (Dec 3-11)
