Audi R8 e-tron On Hold - Not Making Production

News broke today that Audi will not bring the highly anticipated R8 e-tron into production. An Audi spokesman confirmed the model has been delayed indefinitely.
The spokesman was quoted saying “We’ve already built 10 cars which are being evaluated internally.” “We’re concerned about the limited range of pure electric cars with existing battery technology, we don’t think the customers are ready to accept it." “We now have a new head of technical development, Mr Durheimer, who is keeping a close eye on these sorts of projects, so we have to make sure it truly represents an Audi.” “Once technology improves who knows, never say never.”

Details for the R8 e-tron were recently released in Audi’s technology magazine. The vehicle weighs 3,924 pounds, and with twin electric motors they produce 376hp together making a 0-62mph time of 4.2 seconds. Using a household socket, full charge only takes 12 hours with a driving range of 134 miles.
