Spied: All-new Porsche Boxster

Why change a winning formula? These pictures show Porsche's next-generation Boxster testing, but judging by this prototype, stylists haven't wandered too far from the original design.

Despite looking like a facelift, every panel on the car will be all-new, along with a re-designed canvas roof.

As with the new Cayenne, which shed 180kg over the model it replaces, Porsche will be looking to use lightweight materials in the newcomer's construction, using lessons learnt from the stripped out Boxster Spyder.

Not only will the lower kerbweight help improve handling, but it's also an integral part of the German firm's push to lower CO2 emissions and improve economy across its range.

There's no word on what will power the new Boxster, but expect a range of efficient, low capacity turbocharged engines.

The all-new sports car will be officially unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 2011 before going on sale later that year.
