2012 Volkswagen Jetta SportWagen Rendered

The 2011 Jetta launch is going on right now in San Francisco, and we’ll be bringing you driving impressions of the four-door shortly. Sedans are fine and everything, but it’s the five-door SportWagen that’s preferred around our offices. Here, rendered for your pleasure, is what the next Jetta SportWagen would look like.

We’ve learned, however, that the SportWagen will continue to be Golf-based—it’s known as the Golf Variant in Europe for a reason, hence the Golf badge seen here. The name may eventually change to just SportWagen to reflect the move away from Jetta.

The 2011 Jetta will launch first in S, SE, SEL, and TDI trims, with the 2.0-liter turbo GLI model following shortly thereafter. The entry-level S model will feature a new naturally aspirated 2.0-liter, mid-level models will use the 2.5-liter inline-5, and the TDI will, of course, be powered by VW’s 2.0-liter turbo-diesel.

For now, the current Jetta SportWagen—which was just updated for 2010 with the latest Golf’s nose—will likely be sold alongside the new four-door Jetta.
