2014 Volkswagen Golf R Revealed

This is the all new Golf R for 2014!
VW has released these images, and we're told the car will debut in just 2 weeks at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The all-wheel drive 4MOTION model comes with 300hp, and posts an impressive 0-100 km/h (0-62mph) in 4.9 seconds with DSG (manual 6-speed will also be offered with 5.2 sec).
The exterior has restyled R-Line front and rear bumpers with quad exhaust pipes out the rear. In R fashion, the LED tail lamps have been darkened and the front DRL's included four lights. One thing new to note are the matte chrome mirror covers taking a cue from the Audi S and RS series. Inside it will offer plenty of R logos and Alcantara bolstered seats with optional Nappa leather.
Expect all the technical data to follow upon its debut, but compared to the last R this new model has a lower/stiffer suspension, 18% better fuel economy, four electronic differentials, and a long list of new technical gadgets.
Almost shockingly subtle though, this Golf R doesn't have the looks of previous R models but the numbers are hard to ignore. Volkswagen missed the mark for styling as this is not aggressive enough for an R model. It's supposed to be their most race version for the street and stand apart from the GTI. Unless VW has a trick up their sleeve, it will be interesting to see how enthusiasts take to the new model. It does leave the option open for that highly desired (and rumored) Golf RS?
It will go on sale in Europe this October with sales in the U.S. a year later. Pricing will begin at €38,325 (around $37,000 US).
