In an interview with German car magazine Auto, Motor und Sport, Audi's chief of development has said that the automaker is looking for another sport model to add to its lineup.
"Besides the Audi TT and R8, there is definitely still room for another sports car series," said Michael Dick, head of technical development at Audi.
Dick said to look to the show cars from Paris and Detroit that Audi has premiered for ideas of what the next sport model would look like. In particular, the e-Tron Spyder gives a good impression, Dick told the magazine.
The Audi e-Tron Spyder concept is a 2-seat, compact diesel-hybrid roadster powered by a rear-mounted twin-turbo V6 TDI diesel engine with 300 PS (221 kW) and 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) of torque driving the rear wheels and two electric motors on the front axle producing 64 kW (87 PS) and 352 Nm (260 lb-ft) of torque making for an all-wheel drive system.
An e-Tron Spyder series would be a good fit next to the 4-seat Audi TT range and the R8 supercar.
Dick also said that the next Audi Q7 will be considerably lighter than the current generation. He said that weight could be reduced by as much as 400 kg through increased use of aluminum in the Q7's construction.
