Porsche working on four-cylinder turbo boxer engine

Porsche officials have confirmed that the German sportscar maker is developing an all-new flat-four engine, which can be applied to the next Boxster, Cayman and new "baby Boxster". The Four-cylinder boxer was first considered for Porsche’s upcoming small roadster, but then they realized it makes complete sense to use it in the Boxster as well.

Now, as far as we remember the current Boxster only worked with the 3.2 liter six-cylinder engine and the 2.7 was not so good. So one would imagine that a flat-four won’t be up to the job to make a proper sportscar, but Porsche promises it’ll be a good one. They say this 2.5 liter unit will develop up to 360 bhp if fitted with a turbo.

Time will tell to see what the geniuses in Stuttgart come up with.
