Volkswagen is planning to expand its line-up – with a large seven-seater SUV.
The newcomer SUV would be a cheaper alternative to the Touareg, and aimed primarily at the US, although VW’s US boss, Jonathan Browning, said it could come here to Europe. It would be built at the firm’s new plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee, alongside the US-spec Passat. The model would be central to VW’s plan to increase sales in the States from 256,830 last year to 800,000 by 2018.
What about other models for the US? Well, the Polo is said to be a possibility, but the Up! city car won’t come to the US and VW won’t compete in the pick-up market.
